Harvard Master Planning Public Meeting - TransportationApril 28, 2005 Honan Allston Branch Library Presenters: David McGregor, CRP and Harris Band, HP+AI The focus of the meeting on April 28th was Transportation. David McGregor provided some context for transportation discussion looking at the regional and local transportation networks. This was followed by a specific discussion of the following areas: pedestrian and bicycles, vehicles, trucks and delivery services, and shuttles and transit. The following are questions, comments or suggestions from/by various neighbors in Allston (organized by subject heading): TransitQ: Has Harvard given any thought to providing a high speed water shuttle service between MGH and Harvard? Q: Has Harvard given any thought to connecting the neighborhood by extending the street over the Mass Pike by creating a promenade? Q: Will there be incentives for staff and faculty to rent or buy housing near campus? Q: Has there been any consideration of making connection to the green line instead of busing people to Harvard or Central Square? Q: Is there a limit on the number of times people will change transit mode s?Q: How much of transportation decisions are affected by programming? TrucksS: Harvard should limit the times that trucks are allowed to drive down certain streets. Q: Has there been any discussion of doing better than no build? VehiclesQ: What is the number of people that travel between Barry’s corner and Harvard Square?
